ÇONIC SOCIAL v0.2
Tuesday, 6th May, 7-12pm | Bar Vinyl, 6 Inverness St, Camden NW1 7HJ | FREE
DJ Cylob
Ben Osborne (Noise Of Art)
Boep (Adverse Camber)
DJ Çonic
The next Çonic Social is the second in a regular monthly night at Bar Vinyl, Inverness Street, Camden NW1 hosted by Cybersonica - London’s annual festival of music, sound, art and technology.
For those of you interested in the technology, methodology and production behind the music then starting at 7.30pm we have a demonstration by DJ Cylob of some of the music software he’s been working on - the Cylob Music System written in the Supercollider language which includes his use of a monome 128 adaptable, minimalist interface (watch the YouTube video below). A real treat - not to be missed.
With style-shifting electronic music from DJ Cylob, serious beats from Ben Osborne, break-steppin trunk-funk from Boep and squidgy electronica from DJ Çonic this has to be the ‘hang-out’ for progressive electronic music makers and fans looking for somewhere to meet like-minded people, share creative work and techniques and enjoy fresh, vibrant music and performance.

Cylob is the alias of electronic music maker Chris Jeffs. A trombone player in his youth, he progressed to experimenting with electronic music and recording in his late teens and continues to perform regularly and work on recording projects.
Cylob has been playing live and DJ’ing since 1994, playing his first set in legendary Leeds techno club The Orbit, and since touring extensively in Europe, North America, Japan, Australia and Russia. He has also made the occasional worldwide radio broadcast including twice on BBC Radio 1’s Breezeblock show.
At first inspired by early 80’s synth-pop, old-school hip-hop and electro, and dance pioneers Art Of Noise, 808 State and LFO, Chris gave a demo tape to Aphex Twin at a gig in early 1993, subsequently signing to his Rephlex label a short time after. Since his debut, he has released 13 singles and 5 albums on Rephlex. Although Cylob’s music is predominantly instrumental, his most well known tracks have been the underground hits “Rewind” and “Cut The Midrange, Drop The Bass” which pioneered computer-generated rapping and singing on top of signature Cylob beats. 2007 saw the launch of Cylob’s own net label, Cylob Industries with 2 singles and 3 albums scheduled for release before the end of the year, initially on bleep.com.
Cylob makes his music using his own Cylob Music System written in the SuperCollider language. This continuing work in progress, started in 2001, has led to his sound becoming increasingly distinctive. Details of this software can be found on his website.

“… thrill to the bits where I play live keyboard or enter beats in real-time! I had to cut the sound in a few places due to the notorious SuperCollider audio glitch problem, and I’ve applied some eq, compression and level-riding, but apart from that, this is how it was.”
and watch the Monome Music System takes its first steps.

Adverse Camber’s infamous street badger duo, Boep, are back on the barfloor with a new wedge of break-steppin trunk-funk. Turning unclassified beats into untimely classics, they entwine bass and acid whilst endlessly grinding melodies into breaks.

Çonic Social launches on Tuesday, 1st April, 7-11pm - the first in a regular monthly night at Bar Vinyl, Inverness Street, Camden NW1 hosted by Cybersonica - London’s annual festival of music, sound, art and technology.
Çonic Social creates a slice of Cybersonica for a few brief but enjoyable hours the first Tuesday of every month in the friendly, vibey surroundings of the oh-so-easy-to-get-to Bar Vinyl (just 300m from Camden tube). With DJ and VJ sets, live music and audiovisual performances, screenings of short music films and promos, playful interactive audiovisual artworks and demonstrations of music production techniques from established names and emerging talent we’d like it to become a regular ‘hang-out’ for progressive electronic music makers and fans looking for somewhere to meet like-minded people, share creative work and techniques and enjoy fresh, vibrant music and performance.
If you make your own music or audiovisual work with interesting technology, are keen to play your music live (as opposed to just pressing play in Ableton Live) and would like to perform at Çonic Social then we’d love to hear from you. Contact us - conicsocial [AT] cybersonica.org - with some personal info and links to your music, videos and images. We’ll check it out and get back to you.

“She plays lots of different styles but predominantly minimal groovy bass heavy electro, in a style, we think, comparable to Andrew Weatherall and Keith Tenniswood.” DJ MAG Co-promoter of the art-inspired electro night ‘NERD’, London-based DJ, Shelley Parker has become a firm fixture on the UK & European underground electronic circuit - adeptly flicking between genres yet maintaining a brooding dark minimal edge underlying the mix. Working on her own studio productions, as well as developing her label Structure, she also forms part of the Ammunition radio team for Combat Recordings on Play FM, where she has explored a more experimental side to her sets. |
